URICAP - AN EXTERNAL URINE COLLECTION DEVICE FOR WOMEN
UriCap is an innovative external urine collection device for managing female urinary incontinence (UI). The newly launched UriCap is non-invasive, leak-free, prevents contact between urine and skin, helps monitor urine color and quantity, conceals the odor of urine, and keeps the patient dry. Moreover, it is specifically designed to fit the female anatomy.
UI has been estimated to affect more than 50% of nursing home residents (1). Traditionally, UI was managed through the use of indwelling catheters. However, due to the high incidence of catheter associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI) and the resulting high rate of infection and hospital readmission (2), regulatory changes have mandated less frequent use of indwelling catheters simply for the management of UI. Therefore, current options for managing UI typically consist of adult briefs, bed pads, and/or occasional indwelling catheters to address the challenges of female UI. However, adult briefs are prone to leakage, can cause skin irritation, and are labor intensive. As an external urine collection device, UriCap provides a completely new solution to managing UI.

BETTER FOR THE PATIENT AND THE FACILITY
A recent survey in LTC facilities showed that on average, 30 female residents suffered from UI and each required an average of 8 brief changes per day. This resulted in a significant spend for briefs, incontinent supplies, laundry as well as staff time related to UI.
In contrast, UriCap is changed only once per day, it helps the facility reduce various costs associated with staff time, incontinence products, labor, laundry, and waste removal. Moreover, UriCap is covered under the CMS Medicare Part B program and there is no cost to the facility and as a result, the facility can significantly decrease spending and staff time related to managing UI. |
In previous studies, no incidence of infection, skin irritation, or pressure injury developed. Because it is changed only once per day, the facility can reduce costs associated with incontinence products, labor, laundry, and waste removal.
